Egypt, US discuss furthering economic, investment cooperation

Egyptian Prime Minister Atef Ebeid received yesterday Willard Pierson Director of the American Agency for International Development (USAID)in Egypt.

Planning and International Cooperation Minister Ahmed El-Darsh and US ambassador in Cairo David Welch attended the meeting.

In statements following the meeting, Welch said the talks dwelt on means of furthering economic and investment cooperation in the coming stage and ways to face the international repercussions triggered by the September 11 attacks on the US.

Darsh, on his part, said talks took up the deeply rooted Egyptian-US relations.

The Americans voiced appreciation to the role played by Egypt with regard to international terrorism-combat, according to Darsh.

Talks also centered on how to enhance Egyptian-US cooperation in the fields of economy, trade and investment, he added.

On the other hand, the Prime Minister met with Vice President of the World Bank for talks on providing $ 1.5 billion to development projects.
