Arab League for a Russian role in the ME
Regional-Russia, Politics, 10/30/2001

The secretary general of the Arab League (AL) Amr Moussa has sent a message to the Russian foreign minister Igore Ivanov pertaining to the developments of conditions in the Middle East and the need of a quick move by the side of the international community in order to halt the inhuman practices conducted against the unarmed Palestinian people at the hand of the Israeli forces.

This was expressed during the meeting held between the AL secretary general and the special Russian envoy to the ME Andre Vidovin.

Discussions dealt with the deteriorated conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories in light of the grave Israeli escalation against the Palestinian people.

The Russian envoy also gave a briefing on his country's assessment to conditions in the occupied territories and the statement released by the US, Russia and the UN last week to this effect.

The two sides also reviewed the international efforts exerted to limit the deteriorated conditions in the region.
