British forces will stay in Oman after ending joint maneuvers with the Sultanate
Oman-UK, Politics, 10/29/2001
The British defense minister Jif Houne said that part of the British forces will stay in Oman after the end of the joint military maneuvers with Oman in order to support the military attacks led by the US against Afghanistan.
News reports quoted Houne as saying to the press during a visit to Oman in conclusion of the maneuvers which lasted for one month and in which some 23,000 British troopers took part, that these forces will stay there until Osama Bin laden is arrested, but Houne did not define the number of soldiers who will stay in Oman. He also indicated that the alliance which is led by the US does not know the place of Bin Laden, the main accused person in the attacks took place in New York and Washington last month.
Houne explained that Oman was not used as a starting point to launching air raids against Afghanistan and that its mission ( Oman) will be limit to help in refueling the planes of the alliance.
Oman has strongly denounced the attacks that took place recently at the US and voiced support to the war led by the US against terrorism but refused the use of its territories to striking Afghanistan.
