US keen on continuing dialogue with Egypt
Egypt-USA, Politics, 10/27/2001

The United States is looking at the situation in the Middle East with great concern, and sees that if it continues this way, it will harm all countries in the region, including Israel, and undermine the image of the West in Arab and Islamic countries, President Hosni Mubarak's political advisor Osama al-Baz said Thursday.

However, Baz could not say that a new Middle East policy has as yet been crystallized inside the US.

In exclusive statements to MENA, Baz said there are many indications that the policy of the current Israeli government is harmful to the international situation in general.

The whole situation brought about by Israel's practices will ultimately prove to be a burden to the US, Baz believes.

Current contacts between Egypt and the US, whether at the governmental or the non-governmental level, do not reflect differences, but are rather within the framework of Egyptian-US friendship, and are aimed to exchange views on a range of issues.

They reflect the two countries' keenness on continuing dialogue, he said, adding that in such big crises as the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington, the US always started dialogue with major countries from different regions, including Egypt.

Mubarak's political advisor was commenting on a number of visits between Egypt and the US, including the current visit by a delegation from the US Middle East Institute, a visit by Egyptian businessmen to the US last week and a visit by a delegation from the Egyptian Council for Foreign affairs to Washington due on Sunday.
