Regional, Politics, 10/27/2001

The United Nations Sixth Committee (Legal) recommended on Friday that the General Assembly grant observer status to CEN-SAD, the Community of Sahelo-Saharan States.

The Committee recommended, without a vote, that the Assembly grant observer status in its sessions to the 16-member Community of Sahelo-Saharan States.

Under the draft resolution, the General Assembly would invite the 16-member Community of Sahelo-Saharan States to participate in its sessions and works in the capacity of observer.

CEN-SAD is an inter-governmental organization that addresses the common interests of its members: Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Chad, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Gambia, Libya, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Somalia, Sudan and Tunisia.
