Spanish police bans moroccan NGO leader from participating in conference on solidarity
Morocco-Spain, Politics, 10/26/2001
Spain-settled Moroccan journalist, Hassan El Arabi, who chairs the association of solidarity for socio-integration of immigrants, was prevented last Tuesday by the Spanish police from taking part in the opening of a conference held by the autonomous university of Madrid.
Although El Arabi produced an invitation, he was prevented from attending the opening session chaired by crown prince of Spain, Prince Don Felipe.
El Arabi told MAP he was surprised by the Spanish police attitude and by their failure to give any reason.
El Arabi wrote for his Phd degree a research paper on the "image of Moroccans in Spanish cultural media" and chairs a non-governmental association active in integration of immigrants through culture, vocational training and promotion of fruitful dialogue between aliens living in Spain and the Spanish society.
The conference was also scheduled to debate solidarity and formulas likely to help the integration of all components of the Spanish society.
