The last chance for IGAD
Sudan, Politics, 10/26/2001

It seems that talks about detente in the relations between Khartoum and Washington has opened the western appetite to deal with the Sudanese peace file more eagerly, at a time when Khartoum seemed to have given the IGAD initiative its last chance to revive the stalemated negotiations between it (IGAD) and the southern Sudan's rebellions movement.

It also seems that a sudden impetus has started in IGAD that expected to inject a new blood in Sudan's neighboring states of IGAD though pressuring each of Khartoum and the rebellion movement led by John Garang.

The French minister of international co-operation and the Franchophone Charles Jouslan has started intensive contacts with officials in Khartoum. Already arrived in Khartoum on Wednesday was the US under secretary of state while the envoy of Kenya's president for peace affairs in Sudan is expected to arrive tomorrow ( Saturday).

Talks to be held by those officials in Khartoum with the French delegation led by Charles Jouslan who started his visit to Sudan on Tuesday are expected to witness vast discussions on practical proposals made by Khartoum to IGAD's states and its western partners.
