The secretary general of the Arab League (AL) Amr Moussa has stated that the anger and frustration felt in the Middle East is basically stemmed from the great repression enacted on the Palestinians and other Arabs and the continued Israeli occupation.
News reports quoted Moussa as saying at the Arab- American institute in Washington on Monday evening as saying that peace in the Middle East should be based on UN Security Council resolutions concerned, the land for peace formula and also the need of Israel's withdrawal from the occupied Arab territories until June 1967 border and the foundation of a Palestinian state able to proceed and the return back of the Palestinian refugees.
Moussa indicated that the Israeli practices against the unarmed Palestinians is the main reason behind the Arab anger, stressing that the US has to direct the attention into solving the Middle East question because it is the only way to eliminate the roots of terrorism.
As for the US military campaign against Afghanistan Moussa expressed his understanding of the anger of the Americans against the terrorist attacks of September 11 at Washington and New York, however, he indicated the Arab league's great concern over the humanitarian conditions in Afghanistan and called for ensuring protection to the innocent civilians.
