Austria for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state
Palestine-Austria, Politics, 10/26/2001

Austria's chancellor has stressed the need of establishing an independent Palestinian state. He said that the right of the Palestinian people to establish their own independent state is unquestionable at the international level since years and that Europe and his country in particular are ready to take part in the building of such a state.

In a statement to the Egyptian daily al-Ahram issued on Wednesday, the Austrian chancellor expressed his country's deep concern over the deteriorated conditions in the Middle East. He stressed that reviving the ME peace process by coming back to the table of negotiations is the only way to calm things down in the region and to establishing the independent Palestinian state.

Concerning the current war launched by the US against Afghanistan, Austria's chancellor said that its is regrettable that Afghani civilians are being damaged because of measure clearly approved by the UN Security Council.
