Syrian sources and Yaloun's statements
Syria-Israel, Politics, 10/25/2001
Well-informed Syrian sources have considered statements made by the Israeli deputy chief of staff of the army Gen. Moshe Yaloun on Sunday in which he threatened of the possibility of waging a comprehensive war in the region, as just for " local consumption" and fall in the course of the Israeli internal conflicts which are increasing over the post of the prime minister after the failure of the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon to bring peace he ever promised for the Israelis.
The sources told the Kuwaiti daily al-Rai al-Am as saying that Yaloun's statements come in the framework of preparations for the election campaign to be held in Israel and can not take further dimensions because the international conditions does not permit so, noting that on this ground came the operation carried out by the Hizbullah party in the occupied part of South Lebanon to prove that it is impossible to implement the scenario drawn by Yaloun just two hours before the operation.
The Syrian sources stressed that Sharon's promises to his voters were not achieved, rather his ministers are frightened to leave their houses. The sources indicated that peace can bring security.
On the other hand, Syrian and Palestinian sources denied news which noted that the US state department asked for closing the offices of the People's Front For the Liberation of Palestine in Damascus on the ground of assassinating the Israeli minister of tourism Rah'bam Zeifi.
