On the Israeli warplanes sorties over the Bekaa
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 10/25/2001
The Monte Carlo radio said on Wednesday that the Israeli warplanes flew on Tuesday after midnight at low altitude and for one full hour over the Bekaa and Baalbeck until al-Masnaa area on the border between Syria and Lebanon, passing the Lebanese heights and the west Lebanon mountains series.
The radio added that these Israeli sorties which were not intercepted came following an operation by the Hizbullah party in the occupied Shebaa farms.
Meantime, the Lebanese dailies issued on Wednesday said that the US has warned Lebanon against the consequences of expanding the front of fighting and that the US embassy advisor in Beirut phoned the Lebanese foreign minister and conveyed him a tough message in a form of a warning and that the American ambassador in Beirut Vincint Battle phoned the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud on Tuesday evening.
In this context, the radio noted statements made by the Israeli defense minister Benjamin Bin Aleazer on Tuesday during his tour in the northern area of Israel in which the Israeli minister did not rule out attacking Syria, should there be a need for that. But Bin Aleazer said:" we do not want to expand the front, rather to limit the fight."
