Al-Assad stressed to the Italian FM Syria's position regarding terrorism

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday a the Damascus al-Shaab palace received the Italian foreign minister Renato Roggerio and members of the accompanying delegation.

The meeting was attended by the foreign minister Farouk al-Shara and the Italian ambassador in Damascus.

Discussions dealt with conditions in the region and the world and recent developments. View points were almost identical towards ways of dealing with reasons led to these conditions.

The President reiterated Syria's position regarding terrorism and stressed the importance of achieving just peace in the region.

The President called on Europe to be the bridge of culture between the US and the Orient in general and the Arab states in particular. He stressed that a European role is wanted and hoped that the European desire to play such a role will be materialized into a reality at the international arena.

The Italian foreign minister expressed admiration over the President's wisdom in dealing with matters. He said he had heard from the president new thoughts that will be very useful not only at the regional level but also at the international level.

Bilateral relations between the two countries and means of developing them were reviewed.

Following the meeting, Minister Roggerio described his talks with President al-Assad as " very important."

He told reports that discussions with President al-Assad dealt with bilateral relations between Syria and Italy and these relations are very good. He added that discussions also dealt with the international situation and terrorism, stressing the commitment of both Syria and Italy to fighting terrorism.

Talks also dealt with the possibility of exerting efforts to revive the peace process in the region and to avoid matters that will worsen conditions.
