World heritage center calls for rescuing Abu mina monastery
Egypt, Local, 10/22/2001
World Heritage Center chief Francisco Pandarin called on concerting efforts rescue the archaeological monastery of Abu Mina in Alexandria from underground water. The level of underground water went up in recent years due to presence of farms belonging to newly-graduated youths in the areas west of the monastery, which are irrigated by the flood irrigation.
The SCA had spotted the problem and its gauges affirmed that the water level in the monastery has reached 2 inches.
