Al-Shara gets telephone calls from al-Khatib, Shaath
Syria-Regional, Politics, 10/22/2001

The Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Shara on Sunday received a telephone call from the Jordanian foreign minister Abdul Illah al-Khatib during which talks dealt with latest developments in the region in light of the forthcoming meeting of the Arab follow up committee which will be held in Damascus by the beginning of November.

On Sunday evening al-Shara received a telephone call from the Palestinian official in charge of planning and international co-operation in the Palestinian authority Nabil Shaath.

Discussions dealt with latest developments in the region and the policy of terrorism and repression pursued by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territories.

In this regard, al-Shara "stressed the need of coordinating stances among the Arab states in confrontation of the brutal Israeli aggressions against the unarmed Palestinian, exploiting the situation in that the world is preoccupied by the current military operations in Afghanistan."

Al-Shara also stressed the importance of calling on the UN Security Council to seriously consider the grave Israeli violations and put an end to them.
