Envelope containing white powder sent to US embassy in Rabat tested anthrax free, further tests confirm
Morocco-USA, Local, 10/20/2001
Further tests conducted on the envelopes containing a white powder that were sent Thursday to the embassy of the United states in Rabat and to an industrialist in Casablanca were tested anthrax free and did not contain any harmful element.
Sources from the Moroccan interior department said the tests conducted by the scientific labs of the Moroccan gendarmerie and of the general direction of the national security confirmed the inoffensive character of the white powder contained in the said envelops.
Tests are being conducted on another envelop sent to a teacher in the town of Berkane, eastern Morocco, the sources said, adding first indications show that this is a bad taste initiative.
Investigations were immediately started by the competent services of the national security and the gendarmerie royale to identify and arrest the authors, the sources said.
These irresponsible acts, totally strange to Morocco's traditions and values, expose their authors to penal provisions stipulating heavy jail terms.
