Med forum foreign ministers hold extraordinary meeting in Morocco
Regional-Morocco, Politics, 10/20/2001

Upon the initiative of King Mohammed VI, the foreign ministers of the Mediterranean Forum will hold an extraordinary meeting in the Moroccan southern city of Agadir on October 25-26.

The meeting will be centered on the terrorist attacks perpetrated last September 11.

The Forum members will exchange views on the new situation, resulting from the attacks, especially at the level of security and will examine the social, economic and cultural consequences of the crisis on the Mediterranean region, the Moroccan foreign affairs and cooperation department said in a release.

Participants will also engage a reflection on means likely to reinforce Mediterranean cooperation in the new international context and will address a message to the international community regarding the struggle against terrorism, the department added.

Incepted in 1994, the Mediterranean Forum is an informal frame of reflection and consultation among 11 Euro-Mediterranean partners: Morocco, Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Malta, Turkey, Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt.

King Mohammed VI had called for a meeting of the Forum end of last September to assess the effects of the attacks perpetrated against the USA last September 11.
