Iranian- Iraqi talks
Iraq-Iran, Politics, 10/20/2001
An official at the Iraqi foreign ministry said that an Iraqi delegation is visiting Tehran to draw decisive solutions to close the file of Iraqi prisoners and missing in Iran.
The Iraqi weekly al-Zawraa' quoted the source as saying that talks he will hold with his Iranian counterpart will basically concentrate on Iran in addition to inform about the fate of the Iraqi missing, according to Geneva agreement which states to release all prisoners after the end of the military operations.
The source added that reports and statistics adopted by the Iraqi side indicate that number of the Iraqi missing exceeds 5000 including the prisoners whose names were not announced by Iran nor the place where they are arrested..
The source said that the committee in charge of searching for the remains of persons killed in the war between the two sides has achieved some progress in its work, noting that the question of the missing and the prisoners is among the main issues which obstructs the normalization of relations between Iraq and Iran.
