Morocco signs international convention on suppression of terrorism financing
Morocco, Politics, 10/19/2001

Morocco signed in New York Thursday the international convention on suppression of terrorism financing that was adopted by the UN general assembly on December 9, 1999.

The document was signed by Morocco's permanent representative to the UN, Mohamed Bennouna.

Morocco becomes the 58th signatory country of this legal implement, that will enter into force one month after 22 ratification, acceptance, approval or adhesion implements are deposited.

Morocco has ratified several other United Nations anti-terrorism treaties.

The United Nations is drafting two new anti-terrorism treaties, a new Russian-proposed treaty against nuclear terrorism and a comprehensive convention for the suppression of terrorism, first proposed by India. The treaties are meant to strengthen the existing legal anti-terrorism framework.
