King Mohammed chairs ministers' council
Morocco, Politics, 10/18/2001

Morocco's King Mohammed VI, accompanied by his brother Prince Moulay Rachid, chaired Thursday in Khenifra a ministers' Council.

During the Council meeting, economy, finance, tourism and privatization minister, Fathallah Oualalou, made a report on the draft appropriate bill for 2002, the Official Spokesman for the Royal Palace, Hassan Aourid, said.

The draft bill targets the achievement of a strong and sustained growth based on a stable and balanced macro-economic foundation, the consolidation of social cohesion through the enforcement of a suitable social policy, granting a keen interest to the rural world and to the struggle against poverty and the modernization of the Moroccan economy's structures through a reform policy meant to upgrade the efficiency of the sectors of activity and reinforce their competitive edge to face up the liberalization of exchanges and the overture of markets.

The Ministers' Council also studied a draft law establishing the Hassan II Economic and Social Development Fund as a public institution, while preserving its present appellation. The modification comes upon the instructions of King Mohammed VI to ensure the durability of the Fund and to guarantee to it a stronger efficiency in fulfilling its missions.

After examination and approbation by King Mohammed VI, the Council endorsed draft laws related to the 2002 appropriation bill, the creation of the Hassan II Economic and Social Development Fund, the transfer of public enterprises to the private sector, the code of civil procedure as well as a draft law on retirement pensions. The Council also endorsed several draft decrees.
