New Antiquities Atlas to survey all monumental sites in Egypt
Egypt, Local, 10/16/2001

The Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) is conducting a survey of all archaeological sites in Egyptian governorates to prepare an atlas, said SCA Secretary-General Gaballah Ali Gaballah on Monday.

He added that this atlas will be used in national mega projects to avoid monument sites while carrying out these projects.

The first stage of this atlas will comprise Upper Egyptian governorates, he said.

Prime Minister Atef Ebeid approved Culture Minister Farouk Hosni's request to place 11 archaeological sites under the law on protection of antiquities in the areas of Mersa Matrouh and Al-Alamain, which contain tombs, temples and ports dating back to the Graeco-Roman era, said Gaballah.

Meanwhile, Hosni will open six art galleries at the Zamalek Art Complex to put new trends in plastic art on display.
