Saudi- Eritrea border demarcation
Saudi Arabia-Eritrea, Politics, 10/15/2001

The President of Eritrea Asyass Afourki has described results of his talks with the Saudi officials during his recent visit to Riyadh as fruitful and successful.

Afourki said in statements to Eritrea's TV after his return back home that issues he discussed dealt with bilateral co-operation and trade, investment and promoting co-operation in the long- run developmental programs and encouraging Saudi capital to be invested in Eritrea.

He added that his talks with the Saudi officials also dealt with the agreement to demarcate the northern part of the sea borders between Eritrea and Saudi Arabia, amicably after completing the process of border demarcation between Eritrea and Yemen. He continued that talks with the Saudi side also dealt with areas of cooperation in security and regional stability in the African horn and the Red Sea.

Afourki said he also discussed the possibility of establishing the Eritrea's airlines in 2002 in collaboration with the Saudi airlines.

As for his country's relations with Sudan and the neighboring states and the content of the message he had received from the Sudanese President during the visit of the Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael last week to Asmara, Afourki said relations between Eritrea and Sudan are in a better condition and efforts are being made to improve them at the regional and bilateral levels, alike.
