Islam rejects fanaticism
Egypt, Religion, 10/13/2001
The Egyptian Ministry of Wakfs (Endowments) prepared a working paper on the Egyptian experience in confronting extremism and terrorism. The study focuses on the scientific methods of confrontation through the ministry's role in this respect.
The Minister Mahmoud Hamdy Zaqzouq said that the paper dealt with the negative social phenomena in modern times, namely violence, forcing of opinions, alienation form tradition and norms, and turning away from religions values and ethics.
He added that the study asserts that fanaticism is not acceptable by Islam in respect of matters subject to individual judgment, which do not represent a theological question supported with categorical and recurrent evidence.
