Tunisia, Politics, 10/13/2001
Following the decision of the central committee of the ruling democratic constitutional coalition party in Tunisia to nominate the Tunisian President Zein al-Abidin Bin Ali for the coming Presidential elections which will be held in 2004, four parties from the Tunisian opposition announced the formation of special committees to take a stand regarding this matter.
The four parties which are the Socialist democrats movement, the unionist democratic federation, the people's unity party and the liberation social party, have the intention to back the nomination of President Bin Ali for the next presidential elections.
This attitude was reflected in statements made by these parties secretaries general in the implicit attitude not to oppose this nomination due to the great gains achieved by President Bin Ali to the country.
