Nuseibah succeeds the late Faisal al-Husseini

The chairman of the Palestinian Authority PA Yasser Arafat has appointed Surri Nuseibah, the President of " al-Quds university" as the Palestinian official in charge of " the file of Jerusalem" in succession of Faisal al-Husseini who died in May of a heart attack.

In a statement Nuseibah ( 52 year old) said that Arafat asked him to run issues relating to the file of Jerusalem to fill the space left by al-Husseini's death and to represent the Palestinian people at the diplomatic level.

Nuseibah added that he has asked European and American diplomats during his meeting with them on Wednesday to pressure Israel in order to reopen the Palestinian establishments it had already confiscated including Beit al-Sharq (Orient House).

On August 9th the Israeli forces confiscated several Palestinian institutions including Beit al-Sharq in Jerusalem.
