Morocco, Great Britain to set up business council
Morocco-UK, Economics, 10/12/2001
The Moroccan employers' association, Conf?d?ration G?n?rale des Entreprises du Maroc (CGEM) and the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) signed Thursday in Casablanca a letter of intent on the setting up of a Morocco-British business council.
The council, meant to promote business relations between the two countries, will be co-chaired by private operators, namely Mourad Cherif, Chief Executive officer of the Moroccan largest private holding ONA, and David Walker, senior executive of the Morgan Stanley International Bank.
The setting up of the business council is one of the first moves initiated in the frame of the British government's program to promote Morocco as one of fourteen target markets worldwide for a special three-year campaign of trade development.
CGEM and CBI executives voiced determination to secure success to the experience that will open wide commercial and investment partnership opportunities to the two countries' private operators.
CBI represents public and private sector companies and trade, employer, and commercial organizations. It supplies advice, information and research services to members on key public policy issues affecting business and provides a platform for the exchange and encouragement of best practice. It is a forum for the generation of ideas, for exchange of views and for the enlargement of useful business contacts.
The organization represents companies from every sector of UK business: small and large, from manufacturing to retailing, agriculture to construction, hi-tech to finance, transport to consultancy.
The two sides are to hold a meeting this Friday to set a working agenda. The council's first formal meeting will take place shortly in London.
The Lord Mayor of London, Lord Alderman David Howard, who is paying a work visit to Morocco October 9-12 at the head of a business delegation, attended the signing ceremony.
