Maher highlights Egypt's consistent anti-terror stance
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 10/11/2001

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher Wednesday said that Egypt's stand against terrorism was unchanged.

"We have emphasized that we are supporting the fight of terrorism and that the response should be limited, definite, comply with the international legitimacy and not to harm civilians," he said.

Maher was in Doha to attend an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC).

He ruled out military strikes against Arab countries, "Our information is that this will not happen and we will not accept it."

The Egyptian official described as very successful, the Doha meeting, saying it had not been marred by any tension.

Maher reiterated President Hosni Mubarak's statement that Egypt does not plan to dispatch troops to Afghanistan, as it is not part of any international coalition.

Instead, we fully support the international anti-terrorism attitude. "Terrorism is against Islam and international legitimacy," said Maher.

Maher said that there is cooperation between Egypt and other countries on terrorism suspect information. Egypt has earlier provided some countries with information on some terrorists but they paid no heed to on warning.

The Foreign Minister added that if the world countries are willing to fight terrorism they should work hard to extradite the suspects of terrorism.

Moreover, Maher ruled out any link between the Bright Star Manoeuvrs to take place in Egypt and the ongoing attacks on Afghanistan.
