Arab FMs condemn terror attacks on US
Regional, Politics, 10/10/2001

Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa stressed that the Tuesday's consultative meeting of the Arab ministers was held in a cordial atmosphere.

He reported agreement in viewpoints with respect to the issues discussed during the meeting.

Speaking to MENA, Moussa said an Arab stance condemning the September 11 terror attacks on the US was forged during the meeting.

He reaffirmed the Arab countries' sympathy with the American people after the attacks.

Moussa stressed that Arabs demand disassociating terrorist operations from legitimate struggle stipulated by international laws.

The Arab stance backs combating terrorism and fighting all its forms within the framework of international law and under UN supervision, said the Arab League Chief.

He confirmed the Arab foreign ministers' welcoming of and support for his proposal on forming a panel of Arab intellectuals and specialists in civilizations, cultures and religions to refute claims propagated about Islam in the West.

Moussa made it clear that the Palestinian cause came high on the agenda of the Arab top diplomats' talks.

The Arab foreign ministers welcomed US President George W. Bush's latest statements confirming that the establishment of a Palestinian statehood has always been part of the American vision, he added.

They also underlined the necessity of working to preserve the Islamic and Christian holy places in Al-Quds (Jerusalem), Moussa said.
