Moussa warns against attacks on any Arab state
Regional-USA, Politics, 10/9/2001
Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa warned against launching any military strikes on any Arab state, saying all Arab countries denounced terrorism.
"We warn and we demand not to infringe and not to launch any military attacks on any Arab country," Moussa said at a press conference on Monday with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
"On the campaign against terror, one must deal with its root causes and the practices that create an atmosphere of terror, and gear this military campaign towards the search for the causes that have led to this grave and tense situation," he added.
"It is a very serious matter now that Israel is using the world's preoccupation with the current developments to attack the Palestinian people," Moussa said.
" This point must be made clear to the whole world, aren't these double-standards the main reason behind the despair that has poisoned this atmosphere in the region? One must also bring it to attention that the Israeli practices contain a lot of terrorism against the Palestinian people," he said.
Arafat, on his part, said 78 Palestinians were killed and 1,400 others wounded in less than a month by Israeli forces.
