Egypt-European Union, Politics, 10/9/2001
On his meeting with the delegation of the European Parliament, Secretary General of the National Democratic Party, Youssef Wali stressed that the Egyptian people is backing President Mubarak's stance as regards rejection of terrorism.
He added that there is an overall Egyptian support for the ongoing efforts for combating terrorism that are concomitant with President Mubarak's call for convening an anti-terrorism international conference.
Wali stressed that President Mubarak was the first to warn against terrorism since mid 1980s because he is a man of peace and wisdom.
On his part, head of the European delegation, Mr. Michael Dary said that the US response against terrorism is a normal reaction and that related Arab-European co-operation would lead to uprooting terrorism.
"I hope that the US reaction would not exceed terrorism bases," the European official added.
On the Egyptian-European partnership, Dary said that it was an important and courageous step and a strategic option by Egypt for more trade exchange between the two sides.
"Egypt is enjoying the Mubarak-founded democracy that is crystal clear in the parliamentary elections and preserving woman's rights. This is besides improving woman's status and giving her a wider political role in the light of establishing the National Council for Woman under Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak," concluded Wali.
