Group of signatories deny any link with fatwa against anti-terrorism alliance
Morocco, Religion, 10/9/2001

A group of persons, listed as signatories of a fatwa opposing anti-terrorism alliance, said they have no link whatsoever with the document and inclusion of their names was pure lies.

"We were surprised to see our names in the list of this fatwa (religious ruling) that was published by several newspapers. This act of pure lies removes all scientific credibility to the fatwa and unveils the immorality of its object," says Mohamed Saidi Al Jardi, Mohamed Al Kanouni, Mustapha Al Kanouni, Ahmed Amzou, Abdelkader Ben seddik Al Ghammari in a statement sent to MAP.

The authors of this document and those who are disseminating it are using forgery and usurping signatures of those who do not share their jurisprudence opinion and their weak knowledge of sharia (Islamic law), they said.

They also accuse the authors of the fatwa of improvisation and intellectual poverty, underlining that they are after goals other than good advice and wise fatwa, inspired from the sources of the Sharia and developed after thorough thought that has recourse to both jurisprudence precedents and reason.

They also argued that the present juncture requires above all a perfect command of the Fiqh (Islamic theology) and a lucid comprehension of reality, taking into account historical data as well as security and geo-strategic balances.

Only King Mohammed VI, Amir Al Mouminine (commander of the faithful) is entitled to use Ijtihad to better serve the general interest of the Oummah (nation), said the statement.

Two other people who were listed as signatories also disavowed the Fatwa content and said they never signed it. These are Abdelaziz Barraq and Abdallah Tlidi, MAP reported.
