Syria wins the UN Security Council membership with great majority

A Syrian official source announced the following: The world countries have expressed their respect and appreciation for the role played by Syria at the UN, in particular and at the international arena in general.

This was reflected in the almost unanimous voting that took place at the UN general Assembly on September 8, 2001 to electing Syria as a non- permanent member at the UN security council for the years 2002, 2003, as 160 members of the UN members voted for Syria's nomination out of 177 of countries took part in the voting process.

Syria avails this opportunity to express her great thanks and appreciation for all countries which backed her nomination for this membership and voted for her.

This success with great majority shows without doubt the International community refuses Israel's claims on accusing Syria of terrorism and that the great international support for Syria is but a referendum and a clear message that these Israeli claims are groundless.

In this framework Syria has realized that its membership at the UN security council will not be just a privilege, rather a serious work aims at preserving world peace and security and strengthening the UN charter and its role in solving numerous problems the world of today is facing.

Since even the foundation of the UN Syria has contributed to the basics of international legitimacy in order to enable peoples of the world achieving their legitimate aspirations towards a better world in which generations enjoy peace and security.

Throughout years, Syria has revealed its complete commitment to the UN charter and honor of the of the principles of the international law, commitment to decisions released by the international organizations aiming at finding out just solutions to peoples causes away from double standard position.

Syria, once again, reiterated that its work for peace and stability will be clarified through sincere co-operation with members of the UN security council and world countries in order to attain a better future for humanity especially amid the great developments taking place in the world and the grave challenges required to be confronted through collaboration of the international community.
