The Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharazi has expressed his country's concern over the American military operations against Afghanistan which started on Sunday evening and described them as inappropriate and rejected.
He indicated in a press conference held on Monday at the headquarters of the Iranian foreign ministry that there are many who do not agree with the military operations against Afghanistan because there are many ways for fighting terrorism, and that it has to be led by the UN and the American objectives are not clear.
Kharazi expressed his regret that recommendations submitted by Iran and the Islamic world in the area of fighting terrorism and identifying it under the leadership of the UN.
Kharazi added: " we have said that military operations can not be carried out" and that there should be an identification for terrorism and then to exterminate it by an international consensus, noting: " we have expressed our concern that these operations will not eliminate terrorism, rather expand terrorist thoughts.
Kharazi indicated that Iran will not have a careless stand concerning the future of Afghanistan and that it is not pleased about developments in the region. He explained that since September Iran has carried out the largest diplomatic activity to reduce human losses and to prevent the occurrence of another humanitarian activity which will be damaging for the oppressed people of Afghanistan. Kharazi added that for that reason, the spokesman for the Iranian foreign ministry said that these operations are not acceptable, adding that any development in Afghanistan should be under the leadership of the UN.
He stressed that Iran will not permit the use of its territories and airspace for the American military forces, adding:" we have told the Americans that our lands and airspace should not be used and they accepted that." Dr. Kharazi also indicated that the Islamic world can not stand careless towards these incidents and the Islamic world should take a clear position especially towards the identification of terrorism and its roots under and by the leadership of the UN.
The Iranian foreign minister indicated that the formation of an Afghani government in Afghanistan should be at the will and desire of the Afghani people and the UN to supervise this government.
Kharazi indicated the consequences of these operations on the flow of the Afghani refugees towards the Iranian direction, expressing his hope that the UN and the international organizations will provide aids to the refugees, stressing Iran's readiness to provide necessary aids within the Afghani territories.
In conclusion of his statement, the Iranian foreign minister hoped that the operations will be limited and will not damage the Afghani people.
