Statement of the Conference on Islamic Tolerance and Rejection of Terrorism
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 10/8/2001

The Conference on Islamic Tolerance and Rejection of Terrorism stressed that Islam is a global religion. The conference also affirmed that the Koran shows its objectives as calling for tolerance with regard to belief, worship, ethics, and dealings among Muslims and with non-Muslims.

The conference issued significant recommendations as follows:

First: backing the call for holding an international conference for combating terrorism worldwide.

Second: calling on all Islamic institutions all over the world for a comprehensive renaissance aiming at confronting terrorism, spreading tolerant teachings and clarifying the true essence of Islam as a religion of mercy, tolerance and respect of human rights.

Third: urging the world to know the real nature of Islam as a religion of tolerance, sublime human teachings and great civilization that spreads peace, security and co-existence and rejects aggression and destruction.

Fourth: refuting allegations that Islamic civilization is retreating or that Islam is the new enemy after the fall of communism.

Fifth: according to Islamic Sharei'a, terrorist attacks are considered aggression forbidden by Islam since faithful Muslims are not at all aggressors or terrorists.

Sixth: supporting the sound of reason and wisdom of President Mubarak in his honorable stance as regards current issues.
