Killing, displacement in Eritrea
Eritrea-Sudan, Politics, 10/8/2001

The Sudanese daily al-Sahafi al-Dawli ( the International journalist) said that fighting erupted in three Eritrean areas near the Sudanese borders over " Tamarat " district, near the borders with Ethiopia and inside Barinto city. A matter which resulted in a new move of evacuation of Eritrean citizens towards the Sudanese territories especially Kasla province.

The paper added that the UNHCR had taken measures at the borders and UNHCR presidency officials visited Kasla city to get to know about the situation there.

News reports said that confrontations took place inside the Eritrean army between those who support and those oppose the Eritrea's President Asyas Afourki.

For its part, the Sudanese paper al-Rai al-Am said that the battles erupted following the government attempt to arrest Generals in the army, backing the leaders of the detained opposition.
