Palestine-Israel, Politics, 10/5/2001

Three Israelis were killed and other 14 wounded in the suicide operation carried by a Palestinian youth in al-Afoula transport station in north Israel on Thursday before the Palestinian was killed by the Israeli bullets.

The Israeli forces, on the other hand, continued their attacks at the Palestinian territories and an Israeli military force opened fire randomly at the Palestinian citizens in al-Qasaba quarters in Hebron. And this resulted in wounding six Palestinians at least and inflecting heavy losses in several buildings.

Another Israeli military force broke into al-Shweika area in Toulkarem and arrested two Palestinians: Baha' Youssef Shabrawi and Ammar al-Haj Yazid while an Israeli attempt was failed to assassinate one of Cadres of the Fatah movement Rami Kamel by an explosive in Bethlehem. He was admitted to hospital because of wounds.

The Israeli forces also arrested tens of Palestinians in various areas in the West Bank and Gaza, when the Palestinian youth Muhammad Imad Shurnasi was hit by the Israeli fire in Hebron. A Palestinian youth from the village of Kafer Qasem was killed when the Israeli forces opened fire at him and the Israeli forces incurred in various areas in the West Bank and Gaza and continued demolishing houses and leveling agricultural lands as well as uprooting trees.

Israeli military sources said the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon gave his directives together with defense minister Benjamin Bin Aliazer to expand areas where the Israeli army is deploying in Gaza and to demolish all Palestinian houses and police centers close to the Israeli settlements in the sector.

On Thursday Israeli settlers, members in what is called the secretaries of the " temple Mount" tried to break into the courtyard of al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem.

Palestinian sources said that the Palestinian guards of the mosques and several men who were praying confronted the Israeli settlers and prevented them from breaking into the mosque.

The Israeli forces prevented men who wanted to pray in the mosque from entering it and permitted only those who are above 40 year old. The Israeli radio claimed that this measure aimed at preventing clashes between Muslim men who are in the mosque for prayers and the Israeli settlers of the Temple Mount movement.

Concerning contacts between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, the meeting held on Thursday in Jerusalem between the Israeli foreign minister Shimon Peres and the chairman of the Palestinian legislative council Ahmad Qrei and the chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Oreikat has failed in achieving any progress or results towards suspending the Israeli aggression against the unarmed Palestinian people.

The Israeli radio quoted Oreikat as saying following the meeting that the meeting was very difficult and ended without attaining any results.
