Al-Assad receives phone call from Canada's prime minister
Syria-Canada, Politics, 10/5/2001

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Thursday received a telephone call from Canada's prime minister Jan Christian in which the Canadian prime minister expressed Canada's appreciation to the "wise position" taken by Syria against terrorism, noting that the international campaign against terrorism does not target Arabs nor Muslims, rather those who carried out the crime.

President al-Assad stressed that Syria has always stood against terrorism, especially it was among the first countries in the world which suffered from it.

President al-Assad and the Canadian prime minister agreed on that the establishment of a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East region is a basic element to achieve stability and elimination of conflicts and stressed the need to intensify efforts in the coming phase to fighting terrorism and solving regional conflicts on the ground of international legitimacy principles and UN resolutions.
