Egypt, History, 10/4/2001
The Egyptian mission headed by Director of al-Kharga monuments archaeologist Bahgat Ahmed discovered a monumental tomb at al-Mozawaka area off al-Kharga city, the New Valley.
The tomb dates back to the Roman age, almost 2100 years ago, and contains some 3000 mummified hawks.
Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Dr. Gaballah Ali Gaballah said that the discovered hawks are in good condition and will be restored and displayed in a special museum in the New Valley governorate.
'The mission has also found a painting representing God Tutu in the shape of the Sphinx representing the afterlife,' he added.
