A change in Junblat's position towards Syria
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 10/4/2001

The Lebanese daily al-Deyar has stated that there is a turning point in the stances of the Lebanese Druz member of parliament Walid Junblat following the developments in the US of September 11, noting that Junblat called for changing the political address towards Syria.

The paper indicated that Junblat had conveyed this desire to the Maronite patriarch Nasrullah Sfeir, considering that what happened in the US is dangerous and requires utmost co-ordination with Syria.

The paper quoted Lebanese officials who visit Damascus as saying that Junblat's recent stances were welcomed by the Syrian officials and expected these stances to be the beginning for a new page of relations between Junblat and Syria that will eliminate all impediments of the past phase between the two sides.

The paper also indicated that those who visit Junblat noted his persistence to continue the good relations with the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud.
