Inter- Arab coordination to lift sanctions from Libya
Libya-Regional, Politics, 10/4/2001

The secretary general of the Arab League (AL) Amr Moussa started coordination with International organizations which support lifting of sanctions ultimately and immediately from Libya.

These coordination efforts cover the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the African Unity Organization, the coalition of the desert and the Sahara and the non- aligned movement in order to support the AL position in support of Libya.

The AL assistant secretary general Ahmad Bin Hali said that this move will be in coordination with Libya and in light of the decision of the AL- at the level of foreign ministers, September- which indicates the efforts which Moussa will be making to this end.

Bin Hali added that lifting the sanctions imposed on Libya immediately and ultimately has become a must after Libya had fulfilled all its obligations concerning the UN Security Council. He stressed that this fact was confirmed by the report of the UN Secretary general Kofi Annan to the UN Security Council.

He considered that lifting of sanctions imposed on Sudan was a great achievement for the Sudanese diplomacy and revealed the might of the Arab position and the Arab group at the UN. This Sudanese position was made in light of messages submitted by the Egyptian foreign ministry which stated that Sudan had fulfilled all its obligation towards the UN Security Council and improved relations with its neighbors and therefore sanctions were lifted from Sudan.
