Famous American writer calls on Washington to settle Arab-Israeli conflict
Regional-USA, Politics, 10/3/2001
Renowned U.S. writer Suzan George Tuesday called on the United States to endeavour to reach real and effective solutions to outstanding problems in the world, mainly the Arab-Israeli conflict before it is too late.
In statements carried by Orient radio, the writer expressed her rejection of U.S. violence and the slogans that instigate vendetta.
George warned against resorting to violence as a solution to the crisis. This would only complicate things and increase hatred from which the United States is now suffering, she said.
Osama bin Laden and his followers were brave fighters in the eyes of Washington when they were fighting the former Soviet Union, she noted.
She accused the United States of creating this kind of terrorism during the cold war era. This has led to the killing of many civilians in Sudan, Chile and Panama, she pointed out.
She further accused Washington of being responsible for letting the Palestinian-Israeli conflict reach such an awful stage.
It is necessary to stop controlling the planet and give it back to its inhabitants, she said. It is important to avoid violence because to hit back would only mean more attacks and terrorist acts, she added.
