Eritrea expels the Italian ambassador

Eritrea on Monday expelled the Italian ambassador in Asmara after the recently launched European campaign at the press and politics in Eritrea.
News reports said that the government of Asmara gave a grace period for the Italian ambassador Antonio Pandini of 73 hours to leave the country.
On Friday morning the Italian ambassador presented an official message to the government of Eritrea, on behalf of the European Union protesting the arrest of 11 Eritreans in September and closing of an independent paper.
Diplomats in Asmara said that Pandini was summoned on to the Eritrea's foreign ministry just five hours after handing over the message and was told that he is " persona non- grata."
