Child protection efforts win world acclaim
Egypt, Culture, 10/2/2001
"International observers hailed Egypt's efforts to improve the social welfare of children during a recent gathering in Geneva," a state official said yesterday.
Minister of Insurance and Social Affairs Amina el-Guindi said participants in the 28th session of the International Committee for Child Rights praised Egypt's efforts to protect children from exploitation.
The session addressed violence against children at school and at home, as well as the effect of such violence on a child's emotional and psychological growth.
"Egypt's delegation to the session reviewed the government's pioneering project to protect mothers and children through new special legislation, health care and social programmes," added Guindi, who is also the Committee's Vice President.
