Al-Hariri confers with Italian ambassador
Lebanon-Italy, Politics, 10/2/2001

The Lebanese prime minister Rafik al-Hariri on Monday in Beirut reviewed with the Italian ambassador in Beirut bilateral relations and the need of Italy's explanation together with other European countries through their relations with Washington the importance of making a distinction between terrorism and resistance against foreign occupation.

In a statement following the meeting, the Italian ambassador said that he had conveyed to al-Hariri the regret of the Italian prime minister Silvio Perlskoni over his statements (regarding superiority of the West to Islam) about which he said they were misinterpreted. The ambassador said that the Italian prime minister will received tomorrow ( today, Tuesday) a delegation representing Arab ambassadors accredited in Rome to explain this matter.

The ambassador continued that the Italian foreign minister will pay a visit to Lebanon in this month, October, in the framework of a tour he will be holding on several countries in the region.
