Attempts to set a new date for Arafat's visit to Damascus

The United Arab Emirates UAE daily al-Bayan said in its Monday's issue that well-informed Palestinian sources disclosed intensive Arab efforts in order to re-set a new date for the visit of the chairman of the Palestinian Authority Yasser Arafat to Damascus after this visit was postponed last week and resulted in reciprocated tensions and statements on any of the two sides was responsible for its postponement.

Replying to a question on whether these attempts were Jordanian or Egyptian, these sources, which refused to be identified, denied that the efforts to smooth Syrian- Palestinian relations to have any links to the two capitals of Cairo and Amman, noting that that there is another side which seeks to eliminate misunderstanding between the two sides.
