678 palestinians killed, 384 homes demolished during uprising

Since the eruption of the Palestinian Intifadah around 678 Palestinians were killed by the Israeli soldiers and settlers, a report by Palestinian society for protecting human rights said on Sunday.

The report added that 578 Palestinian martyrs were killed by Israeli soldiers' gunfire, 23 of them were killed at the hands of Jewish settlers and 22 others were killed on the military border crossings. It showed that 137 Palestinians under the age of 18 and 162 children were also killed by Israeli soldiers and settlers.

Ten of the medical staff working in the Palestinian territories were also killed during performance of their duties, the report said, noting that four doctors were killed by the Israeli army, one of them was a German doctor. The society said that the Israeli bombing caused the death of 162 Palestinians and 35 Palestinian citizens from the military and political leadership were assassinated by Israel, noting that around 10,569 Palestinians were injured in the Palestinian territories since the uprising started.

During the first year of the uprising more than 384 houses were demolished, 308 houses in Gaza strip and 76 houses in the west bank. The report said that Israel had destroyed more than 20,655,000 square meters in Gaza Strip and the West Bank while Israeli forces and settlers uprooted and burnt more than 35,398 trees in the West Bank alone.
