King Mohammed renews call for Euro-Mediterranean forum meeting
Morocco-Regional, Politics, 10/1/2001
Morocco's King Mohammed VI renewed this Monday at a meeting with Spanish foreign minister, Josep Pique, his call for an extraordinary meeting of the Euro-Mediterranean forum to assess effects and consequences of last September 11 attacks against the USA.
The king stressed it is important for Mediterranean countries to think jointly about the best answer to an international situation that has experienced deep changes.
Moroccan-Spanish relations were also surveyed during the meeting.
The king has made the call end of last week during a meeting with Portuguese state minister -foreign minister- Jaime Gama who was on a visit to the Kingdom. The Portuguese official said the extraordinary ministerial session will likely be held in Morocco by October 15. It will debate all implications of the fight against terrorism and strategies for cooperation between all countries sharing the same ideas on international stability.
The forum, set up in 1994 by Algeria, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia and Turkey, is an informal forum for consultation and dialogue between these Mediterranean countries.
