Egypt, partner in terrorism combat without striking another country

In an exclusive interview with Al-Ahram, Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher asserted that Egypt is a partner in the diplomatic, political, and legal efforts aiming at combating terrorism, provided that there is no selectivity that confines terrorism to Arabs and Muslims.

Following are from this interview excerpts:

Egypt will be an effective element in containing terrorism, without striking another country.

It is inconceivable that the USA would undertake a military action without having convincing evidence.

Secretary of State Colin Powell has stated several times that they will present to the world the available evidence.

It is only natural that the USA would punish the perpetrators of the terrorist attacks.

In our opinion, this punishment should be within international agreement, and under an international umbrella.

The USA focuses on Osama Bin Laden and his organization, and there expand confrontation.

Washington asserted that there is no thinking to address a strike to any country in the region.

Any information that associates between Iraq with the terrorist acts is nothing but flight of fancy.

Right from the first day of the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, Israel launched a campaign of falsification, and tried to link between terrorism and Islam, with the aim of spoiling the Arab relations with world countries.

For the second time during 10 years, the West in general, the USA in particular, find out that Israel is an obstacle in face of any international effort to solve any crisis in the region.

What is frequently said that Israel is a power for the West, is just nonsense, due to its non-commitment to international law, and non-implementation of international resolutions.

The Americans now understood the reality of what goes on in the region, resulting in a state of confusion frustration, hopelessness, and tension.
