Exports of farming and sea products drop in jan-july 2001
Morocco, Economics, 9/29/2001
Exports of agricultural and sea products in the period between January and July 2001 regressed respectively by 20.6% and 23.5% compared to the same period of 2001, says the Exchange office.
Exports of agricultural products which were worth 2.37 billion DH (USD 204.3 million) up to Last July were affected by the slump in the exports of citrus fruits ( 28.5%), potatoes (23.9%) and fresh tomatoes (13.3%). Exports of other fresh vegetables grew by 13.3%.
The regression also affected exports of other agro-food products which went down from 1.27 billion DH (US$ 109.4 million) end of July 2000 and 1.24 billion DH (US$ 106.8 million) end of July 2001. The drop was mainly noted in olive oil, fruit juices and fresh and frozen fruits.
In the same period, exports of sea products which reached some 4.38 billion DH (US$ 377.5 million) also plummeted due to a regression in exports of shellfish, mollusks and shells.
