King Mohammed meets Iranian speaker, advisor to guide of Iranian revolution

Morocco's King Mohammed VI, who was accompanied by Prince Moulay Rachid, on Thursday received at the headquarters of the parliament in Rabat speaker of the Iranian Islamic Shura Council (Parliament), Mehdi Kerroubi.

The king then met with Ali Akbar Nateq Nouri, High Advisor to the Guide of the Iranian Revolution.

Speaker of the Moroccan house of representatives (lower chamber of the parliament), Abdelouahed Radi, and Iran's ambassador to Morocco, Mohamed Reda Bakhtiari, attended the meetings.

King Mohammed VI chaired the same day the opening of the second session of the parliamentary Union of member states of the Organization of Islamic Conference.

On Wednesday evening, King Mohammed VI hosted a dinner banquet in honor of participants in the conference.

Some 50 speakers of parliaments and of similar bodies in member states of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC/based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) are attending the union's session.

Participants are debating issues pertaining to the situation in the Arab and Islamic world, especially in Al-Quds and the other Palestinian, Lebanese and Syrian territories still occupied by Israel.

The position of OIC member states against terrorism, the role of Islamic parliaments in dialogue between civilizations and the impact of globalization on Islamic economies are also on the agenda.

The Tehran-based Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union was set up in 1999.
