Continued Israeli measures against the Palestinians
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 9/25/2001

The Israeli forces on Monday continued their oppressive acts against the Palestinian people. The Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon renewed his rejection to any political meetings with Palestinian Authority leaders before halting the Palestinian Intifada.

Meantime, the Israeli forces blocked the area between Jenin and Toulkarem and converted it into a military zone and prevented a delegation representing the Palestinian dentists from heading to Damascus to attend the Arab dentists conference due to open today in Damascus.

The media official at the Palestinian Authority Yasser Abd Rabbu described Israel's announcement to block the area between Jenin and Toulkarem as a closed military Zone as an act that violates all agreements signed with Israel and as meaning starting implementation of perpetuating the Israeli occupation and annexation plans.

Meantime, the secretary general of the Fatah movement in the West Bank Marwan al-Barghouthi commented on the Israeli request to the Palestinian authority to hand him to the Israeli judiciary saying that the Israeli judiciary is terrorist and gets its instructions from the Israeli security departments, noting that the Israeli judiciary is being used as a cover to justify the acts of assassination and aggression carried out by Israel against the Palestinian people.

Al-Barghouthi explained that the struggle of the Palestinian people is made under the banner of the international legitimacy resolutions and the international recognition of the right of peoples to defending against occupation. He added that the Palestinian Intifada is a self defense against the Israeli terrorism.

Meanwhile, the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon renewed his rejection to agree to convening meetings between Israeli officials and Palestinian officials before halting the Palestinian Intifada.

The Israeli radio said that Sharon conveyed a message to Yasser Araft through the French Foreign minister Hubert Vedrin during their meeting on Monday, in which Sharon stressed that any contacts with the Palestinians are linked to what he called restoring security and ceasing fire by the Palestinian side.

The Israeli foreign minister Shimon Peres commented on Sharon's decision to preventing him meeting with Arafat by saying before a meeting for the ministers of the labor party in the Israeli government that " Sharon had ridiculed me before the world."
